The European Council for Construction Research, Development and Innovation (ECCREDI) has officially published its new strategy brochure, setting a comprehensive roadmap for research and innovation (R&I) across the European construction value chain.
As the European Union actively reassesses its R&I funding and priorities for the upcoming years, this timely publication addresses critical industry challenges: climate pressures, digital disruption, and growing workforce shortages.
At IC-Europe, we welcome this strategic vision, which firmly positions industrialised construction, circular economy principles, and digitalization as the core pillars for a sustainable, resilient, and competitive Europe.
Key priorities: designing the infrastructure of tomorrow
The ECCREDI strategy shifts the focus toward market uptake, ensuring that research directly translates into actionable solutons for the industry. The roadmap highlights several critical areas of action:
- Circularity and disassembly: the document urges a shift toward adaptable buildings designed for disassembly, alongside improved legal frameworks that encourage the reuse and recycling of structural materials.
- Industrialised construction and tech: stronger interaction of digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Twins, to scale up efficiency.
- Climate adaptation: promoting low-carbon materials and advocating for innovation-friendly contracts within EU public procurement rules.
- Workforce upskilling: transforming the current workforce to bridge the skills gap and prepare professionals for the Construction 4.0 era.
IC-Europe’s Commitment
As an association dedicated to driving offsite and modular innovation across the continent, IC-Europe fully aligns with ECCREDI’s message: construction innovation is not a choice, but a strategic enabler. We will continue to collaborate with our members and European partners to ensure these strategic priorities are implemented across the market.
