The European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) successfully held its 2026 Annual Conference and General Assembly on May 28-29 in Paris. Hosted at the prestigious Institut de France by its French member federations, FFB and FNTP, the flagship event gathered European policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators. Under the central theme “Innovation at the Heart of Europe’s Construction”, participants focused on translating advanced concepts into concrete actions to overcome pressing societal and environmental challenges.
The conferences addressed how innovation, digitalisation, and data can strengthen the competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience of the sector. Industry experts and institutional representatives discussed critical solutions to navigate the green transistion, labour shortages, rising costs, and modern housing needs. Outgoing FIEC President Piero Petrucco opened the event by stressing that innovation is no longer optional but essential for European companies of all sizes to remain competitive in a shifting geopolitical landscape.
Data and digital tools emerged as the primary catalysts for structural transformation. Natalia Zebrowska, representing the European Commission (DG GROW), emphasised how tools like Builing Information Modelling (BIM), Digital Product Passports, and digital building logbooks streamline operations and reduce compliance burdens. This push towards advanced digitalisation aligns perfectly with the growth of industrialised construction solutions, which rely heavily on standardised data and automated processes to scale efficiency across the continent.
In his closing remarks, the newly elected FIEC President, Jean-Pierre Paseri, reminded attendees that the challenge is no longer conceiving solutions, but implementing them at scale. He reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to providing a strong, unified voice to impact European decision-making and turn ambition into reality.
